artista: casey o'connell

A friend of mine often posts great artwork by different artists on his blog... I'm always inspired by his findings. Today's featured artist particularly caught my eye... Her work is so sweet! I'm trying to learn more about art... Tomorrow, a bunch of us are heading over to the MoMA, so I'm excited for that. So for your enjoyment... here are my personal favorites by Casey O'Connell.

calling all californians!

Irony:
I'm in DC, and there's a truckload of great sales in NY.
I'm in NY, and there are even more great sales in CA.
I'm in CA... nothing.

So I must tell you about this insane sale that's going on in SF/the OC/SD. The best boutiques (men's/women's/children's) in San Francisco are joining together for one BIG warehouse sale with prices up to 75% off. Portion of proceeds benefit 7x7 Charity Partnership. Keep checking their website for updates and find out when they'll be in your neck of the woods!

And with this insane line up of designers, I wouldn't miss it in a heartbeat...

sale-ing away...

Noteworthy sales...

  • Oak NYC. 75% off at their Bond St. location. Cramped little space, but there's still a handful of stuff left. Lots of cute shoes, including Jeffrey Campbell, Frye, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Dolce Vita. I'd only recommend it if you were in the neighborhood... 25 Bond St.

  • Atrium. I think it's their last week in business? Not exactly sure, but the place is filled with racks ranging from $9-$200 so it's worth sifting through if you have the time. Saw lots of Vince and Splendid in there. Had no patience to look through everything else... 644 Broadway, intersection of Broadway and Bleecker St.

  • Century 21. Ahhh.. Century! It was only the second time I've been to the place, and after recovering from the initial disgust (the place is an absolute MESS) I delved right in to find a slew of Mint by Jodi Arnold. And better yet, they're in the middle of their 1/2 off sale- which is, 1/2 off THEIR listed price. Everyone seemed to be walking out of the store with SOMETHING. Me? I scored a cute little cropped jacket from Mint for a mere $45... A steal, considering its retail price of $330! 22 Cortlandt Street, by Broadway and Maiden Ln.

  • Samples for (eco)mpassion. Stumbled by this one through sheer luck... Big names, DEEP discounts. Castaways from BigDropNYC, Chelsea Flowers, T-Bags, and more are discounted at nearly 80%! Definitely worth checking out... I didn't find anything, but maybe you will. West 3rd Street, b/w Broadway and Lafayette St.

why hunter wellies are the shiz

You know Hunter.

You've seen them on every mentionable celeb (Ashley O, Kate Moss... even Angelina in Mr. & Mrs. Smith!). And you've probably seen them on every JAP at school, and envied them for it.

They also have a kickass web team! *waves* Check out hunterboots.com not only to browse their ginormous collection of wellies, but their lifestyle section as well, which collects YOUR images and YOUR blogs about their wonderful rainboots.

And right now would probably be a good time to stock up on these babies, considering it's gonna be storming all of next week...

did anybody catch this?!

One of my alltime favorite fashion blogs, The Cut at New York Magazine, somehow found the story of how Anna was speaking to our group of interns and mentioned it in their blog!

*faints*

I don't think I was ever ready for that type of exposure... so I took down the post. But any press is good press, right? Heh...

the fashioneo goes commercial

Hi everyone... Sorry for the lack of updates! Work has been extremely busy... As soon as I get home, I eat dinner and go to bed. Things have finally lightened up a bit.

No fun and fancy pictures for today, but there is something to take note of- This blog is now accessible through the url http://www.thefashioneo.com! I figured it's a lot easier to type in and remember, so I went ahead with it. Add it to your bookmarks! :)

To sum up the past few days... it's been insane. Hm. The Anna Wintour seminar was just amazing. I can't go into much detail, but she summed up the entirety of her professional career and confessed that she was never an intern herself- but she did make sure to mention the importance of interning in reference to Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough (codesigners of Proenza Schouler: Hernandez interned at Michael Kors and McCollough at Marc Jacobs) and Alexander Wang (who was an intern at Vogue himself). She was lovely, cracked a few jokes, and yes, she DID walk into the room with her sunglasses on. She took them off for the seminar, though.

The cherry on top of my summer, for sure.

Seems like all the buzz is closing in on Fashion Week, which is nearly a month away! And I'm so excited to announce that I'll be attending my very first fashion week this season... as a marketing intern for Women's Wear Daily... and getting paid to do so! I'll be passing out free copies of WWD on the steps of Bryant Park, so if you see me, please do say hi and take a copy! The coordinator mentioned that we can feel free to roam around the tents before/after our shifts... maybe try and snag a stand by ticket to some of the shows as well. I'll sure as hell be reporting from the tents, so stay tuned for those posts. Celeb spottings + beautiful people + beautiful clothes= my kind of heaven. You can stay on top of all the Fashion Week buzz at Fashionista, my daily reference for all things fun & fashionable.

More pictures and posts coming very very soon...

the fashioneo meets vogue

So, I just got back from the Vogue offices at the other Conde Nast building. The menswear market editor and assistant fashion editor talked to me about his experience with the program and how he got to where he is now... Some crazy stories! I only expected to chat with him for a few minutes (editors are busy enough as it is!) but he graciously gave me a tour of the office! For those of you who are wondering, the office is exactly how it appears in that Sex and the City episode (where Carrie's drunk at Vogue). It was too much to take in at once. Fabulous.

Classic Irving Penn images plastered the halls, and there was barely a square foot of free space to step on- Editors left and right discussing Lanvin looks or choosing between two pairs of shoes. There was so much going on... Passed by Grace Coddington's office, his own office, and then his voice drops to a whisper- "To the left is Anna's office, peek in really quickly if you can." Following his advice, I nonchalantly glanced to the left and caught a brief glimpse of her office. Two assistants perched at their desks a la Andy and Emily-- check. Bright office, full of space and tense air-- check. Anna Wintour, gathering her things with her back facing towards me-- check.

Cue the adrenaline rush. The editor smiled at my excitement and we continued onward.

It was a short and sweet trip, and I was on cloud 9 as I waited for the elevator in the lobby (which, by the way, is more nicely furnished than my own living room). I step inside a semi-crowded elevator and wait for the doors to close, when...

Anna steps in. And stands directly next to me.

Cue the panic.

She's fumbling around, looking for something in her taupe Prada tote... Or maybe she wasn't looking for anything at all, perhaps she was just avoiding all the tension in the elevator... Regardless, I stood still as a statue, watching her in awe in the periphery of my vision...

Yes, I know that sounds disgustingly creepy, but you would do the same thing!

We walked out of the same exit, and I lingered to the side of the entrance, texting up a storm. Anna walked into a Lexus and her driver drove away.

This is too much to take in for 20 minutes of my regularly slowpaced, lazy life. But oh, what an afternoon it was...

Back to work.

rain rain, go away :(

What a dreary day!

I just don't get how people can enjoy the rain. I find nothing enjoyable about spending 30 minutes primping for work only to discover that it's pouring outside and all you've done is for naught. Blah.

So I spent a good chunk of time on Polyvore, dreaming up some beautiful outfits to wear on such crap days like this. I've yet to master the artful placement of items that tFSers seem to be so familiar with, but for now, this will do.

Phillip Lim patent trench, Hunter wellies, Miu Miu bag, L.Erickson knot turban, LNA deep v tee, J Brand 10".

überspotting!

O.... m... g.

Just had the craziest spotting of the summer.

Yes.

The British bombshell herself.

Agyness Deyn!

So I'm in Soho after work, minding my own business and doing some careless "window" shopping. I decide on a whim to go to Sephora to see if they have those OPI shades in yet. I open the door. Agyness. In my face.

Cut to me looking like a complete ass, entirely off guard (who in the world anticipates running into one of the world's top models in... Sephora?), frozen in my tracks. My face must have looked like this:

O__O

Agyness sees, and then she flees. No joke. We made eye contact and after she realized that I definitely was aware of who she was, she sprinted out the door. That made me sad. I wanted to at least tell her with any bit of brain I had left that I was a deep admirer. Or just get the chance to mutter a friendly hello.

Oh well. Maybe she was in a hurry. Or maybe she's scared of crazy modelfans such as myself. I have no recollection of what she was wearing, how tall she was in person, or even if she had a black and white striped bag in her hands-- what I do know is that she looked exactly the same as she appears in shoots. Flawless face. Now that's something.

Fast times at Zara...

P.S. Shared an elevator with Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Amy Astley this morning... A positively alarming, intimidating, but fabulous experience.

on holiday

How was everyone's fourth of July? I stayed in the city to watch Macy's fireworks spectacular by the water. My roomie Alice got access to her office, the last building on Wall St., so we watched the fireworks 14 stories up from the pier. It was insane. And absolutely beautiful. Before all that, we just kind of bummed around Soho and Union Square. For you J.Crew lovers- If you haven't been to Madewell yet, it's the perfect time to go because they've finally marked down items for sale (which is extremely extremely rare!). I walked in wearing my blue Vince cotton dress and walked out wearing a Madewell tank & shorts. For $40 (don't forget to use your student discount of 15% while you're there) it was quite the bargain.

Madewell is planning to open up their online shop in the fall. Yay!

So... as promised, here are the photos from the FIRST issue of Vogue which was published on December 17, 1892. Unreal....

Cover.

This reminds me of Gossip Girl.

The definition of "vogue"

my new favorite editorial

Decided to stop by Barnes & Noble after work today- Was looking for the "On the Edge" Vogue book but instead found "In Vogue"-- more of a tribute to the publication as a whole. It included the major photographs, illustrations, and the evolution of the pub through each of its seven editorial reigns.

I found this editorial in the "Movies and Fashion" pages. Fell in love on the spot. Natalia Vodianova, one of my faves, featured as Alice in a fashion wonderland. Guest appearances by... well, you'll see...

Tom Ford as the White Rabbit

Marc Jacobs as a mushroom-dwelling caterpillar

Karl Lagerfeld

Jean Paul Gaultier as the Cheshire Cat

Viktor & Rolf-- Tweedledee & Tweedledum

Stephen Jones as the Mad Hatter; Christian Lacroix as the March Hare

My FAVE... John Galliano as the Queen of Hearts

Donatella Versace as the Gryphon

coveted couture: dior

Huh! Fashion Week Daily is surprisingly quick with their runway reviews... they have photos from today's Chanel show already, although there are only 10 so far.

Dior. True art. What else needs to be said?

summer reading

Perhaps I spoke too soon about being uninspired. My moodiness is a little better today, mostly thanks to Dior couture. Will post my favorite looks in a separate post...

Anyways, I used to read like crazy when I was a little kid. That's the reason why my vision is so bad (-7.0 ...yeah, I know)- I'd constantly bury my nose in a book during those hourlong car rides to church. At any rate... I started reading a lot more this summer as a result of peer pressure and frankly, out of boredom.

The two and a half books I've finished so far have been great in their own ways. I highly recommend them- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (thanks big!) and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult (thanks Grace/Sue!). I'm in the midst of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, and I'm loving it!

But of course, the truly lazy leisurely reading is drawn from Womens Wear Daily, Vogue, Teen Vogue, and fashionista.com. Today I got to go on a tour of the Conde Nast archives, courtesy of the Conde Nast Internship program... and I leafed through the first ever edition of Vogue. December 17, 1892. Holy crap, right?! It is amazing how far the publication has come and how much it has evolved. The first issue mainly consisted of illustrations and poetry. Pictures to follow.

Two fashion-related must reads: On the Edge, pub. by Random House as a celebratory commemoration of the 100 years of Vogue (1892-1992). Hard to find for a good price, but I just won a used edition on ebay for $20. The other is The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior which I stumbled across at Madewell, of all places. It is adorably vintage and yet still in tune with today's rules of fashion. Well written, concise. Highly recommended.

Ugh.. have been on hold with my school's financial aid office for the past 40 minutes!! How ridiculous...
